My first “custom” bicycle was as a young teenager back in the 1970’s. In fact, it was 2 bikes. John B and I created a pair of matching bikes that were designed for us to ride along the railroad tracks to camp at the Deep Hole. Those bikes are probably still at the bottom of that abrupt turn in the river near Leesville, OH. The final ride was off the hillside and into the river, letting the bikes sink below us.

Throughout my days, there was always a return to cycling for the mobility, adventure and fitness aspects of riding, but mostly, the freedom that cycling brings to life. Do you recall that freedom? Do you remember that first time that you were wowed by your bike?

The years of raising a family were a little more difficult in finding the time and opportunities to ride, but I kept it up as best I could. Sometimes with the additional task of keeping upright while the little guy in the kiddie seat was wiggling from side to side to see that dog who was viciously yapping at our heals.

Some of those rides were in the 1990’s in Europe when I was sent there as part of my training for my role at Michelin Research. It was at Michelin that my Product Development Engineering skills were developed and polished. The challenges in Research and Development of getting the multiple materials and products in a tire to all work together harmoniously, to deliver the best product in the market, taught me much. This knowledge would later yield to an in depth understanding of what it takes to work with carbon fiber to build and tune a bicycle frame. Michelin also taught me the importance in quality and how to achieve it, which is now ingrained in my DNA.

In 2008, after 3 years of living in northern Thailand, I ventured into using carbon fiber to build a bicycle. Although, I wasn’t bonding carbon to carbon, I was developing a way to bond carbon fiber to bamboo tubes. This was a 2 year process that not only delivered a well respectable bike, but it also brought lots of opportunities to build relationships with the local Thai people that we were there to serve. A win-win!

I set out to develop hand crafted carbon fiber bicycles in 2016, back here in the US. After many iterations, I have settled on the tube-to-tube construction process, to deliver fully custom built bicycles to you, so that you can once again be wowed by a ride on your bike!

I often stand back and look at the bike in front of me and say “WoW!” We here at WebbWorks want to deliver that wow to you too! We look forward to taking the next ride with you!
